Requirements
Dumfries and Galloway Council appointed Nairn Construction Ltd as Main Contractor to deliver the Mid Annandale AFC grandstand. This new 100-seat, covered pitch-side stand was installed alongside a stand-alone prefabricated toilet block. Improving the spectator experience for this local amateur football club. In fact, this project was the latest in a series of improvements to the club’s facilities.
Mid Annandale AFC provide football coaching and matches at all levels in the local community. This project was the latest in a series of improvements to the club’s facilities.
Some of the installation work inconvenienced public grounds bordering the facility. As a result, the main priority was to keep everything safe at all times throughout the installation.
Our Approach
First, our management team began planning the project early, completing the required health and safety documentation and statutory notices. We secured the long-lead prefabricated items in good time by coordinating our skilled in-house team with our network of specialist subcontractors.
We planned the construction programme over two visits. First, we completed the underground services and civil engineering works, including the foundations, concrete slabs and drainage. On our return, we installed the grandstand and prefabricated toilet block.
THE KEY WORKS CARRIED OUT ON THE MID ANNANDALE AFC GRANDSTAND WERE AS FOLLOWS:-
- 200m of Utility trenches for power and water connections.
- New foul water drainage connections into existing on site sewerage lines
- We also altered the existing pitch-side spectator fencing and perimeter 5m-high ball-stop fencing to accommodate the new works
- We then connected new utility services to the toilet block.
- Subsequently, we installed a new structural concrete slab to site the modular grandstand.

- Reinstatement of existing block paving after completion of the installation of the toilet block
- Connection of new utility services to the toilet block
- Chlorination and legionella testing of new water supplies
- Electrical testing and certification of new services
Results
The work is now complete, and the client has received all required operation and maintenance documents needed to operate the modified facilities. As a result, fans, spectators and parents have enjoyed using the new amenities at King Edward Park, which have been well received by the local community. We believe this update will help future-proof Mid Annandale AFC for years to come, enabling the club to keep offering a great service to the community.

“From the moment that Nairn Construction Ltd was awarded the contract and initial contact was made with Craig (Nairn) and Michael(Kirkpatrick) we (The Mids) knew we were onto a winner. After our initial meeting a plan was drawn up that gave us a start date and because the work would possibly interfere with the Clubs fixtures and park bookings we were able to alter some arrangements that meant minimum disruption to all the local users.

Since completion of the grandstand and toilet block we have since used Nairn Construction Ltd to carry out some repair and refurbishment work in our pavilion and once again they fully delivered. Again Michael and Craig attended during the Christmas holiday period and made sure minimum disruption to our quest to deliver a service to the community.
