Requirements
Dumfries and Galloway Council invited Nairn Construction Ltd to bid for a contract to install a new access and fire escape footpath around one of their facilities in Dumfries. The footpath needed to provide a safe, compliant fire escape route, so both timescale and quality were critical to the brief.
Through a competitive tender process, Nairn Construction was confirmed as the winning bidder, beating competitors on a range of criteria set by the client, including price, programme and safety approach.
OUR APPROACH TO THE LOCHSIDE STORES FOOTPATH
After receiving contract confirmation, we produced the necessary Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental documentation and submitted it to the council for approval. Following approval, we scheduled the works for completion within two weeks of the award. This tight turnaround reflected the urgency of the fire escape requirement.
We worked closely with the council throughout to minimise disruption to the site and ensure the new footpath met all access and safety standards required for a fire escape route
THE KEY WORKS CARRIED OUT BY NAIRN ON THE LOCHSIDE STORES FOOTPATH WERE AS FOLLOWS:-
- Bulk earthworks to formation level
- Installation of new pin kerbs
- Raising of existing ironwork to suit new path level
- Removal of existing drainage gravel borders
- Installation of new bitumen surfaces through our supply chain
- Reinstatement of verges around the new new path
Results
Nairn Construction completed the works quickly and professionally, and the client complimented the standard of workmanship throughout. The new footpath was then put into operation immediately. With zero snags or issues raised — a strong result given the tight two-week delivery window.
