Nairn Construction Ltd were employed by a domestic self build home builder to carry out substructure works for their new project in Carlisle. The client was aiming to build the project himself, but did not have the expertise, knowledge or site team to carry out the retaining basement structures.
The client required us to carry out cut and fill bulk earth works to create the footprint of the new property, below ground drainage works for foul water, basement foundations and retaining wall structure, which included designed shuttering, reinforcing steelwork, water barriers and waterproof concrete.
After receiving design information from the client, Nairn Construction Ltd, engaged with a Structural Engineer and formwork supplier to develop the design and to produce a temporary works design for the formwork. Once the initial designs were received, the Nairn team checked the information against architects details and dimension and proceeded to the construction phase.
The key works carried out by Nairn were as follows:-
- Bulk earthworks to create safe working room around proposed retaining structure
- Excavation of wall and building foundations
- Reinforcement steel fixing
- Concrete installation
- Form work construction
- Tanking and drainage works behind retaining structure
- Backfilling and compaction works
- Underground sewer drainage
The works carried out by Nairn Construction were completed in a quick and professional manner which allowed the client to commence self build works to the rest of the project without the requirement of handling the heavy earthworks and
