Company Growth
As we come to the close of 2022 it seems an apt time to look back at the year we leave behind. Our third full year of being a fully fledged construction company has seen some lows but mainly highs, many milestones ticked and an impressive, continued growth spurt.
Having taken on our first employee in 2019 we have had a steady and selective expansion over the years and we are now proud to be supporting 21 employees on the payroll. Our ethos revolves around our team with our #teamnairn slogan we aim to offer our employees a fulfilling, challenging, and rewarding career in construction, supported by training, upskilling and cross skilling. This year we have seen our youngest member of staff turn 17 and get his driving licence and our oldest member of staff turn 75 – Despite the age difference, we aren’t sure which of them is the cheekiest!!
The years achievements have come thick and fast. February was a busy month which saw the launch of our shiny new website, helping us to shape our capability statement and general marketing plan. Although we have always lived by the premise, we finally claimed our Living Wage Accreditation along with our Constructionline Gold Accreditation.
March saw us invest in our first major plant with 8 and 13 tonne excavators, their big brother will be joining us early in 2023 along with some other items of plant and machinery we are currently purchasing to assist the team.
In May our Kickstart employee became a permanent member of staff and is hoping to start a joinery apprenticeship with us in 2023. Our continued community support saw us build a BBQ in May as well as a pathway in November, alongside a myriad of sponsorship and equipment donations to a wide range of local charity organisations all throughout the year.
In July we gained our ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 accreditations and received high praise on our Information Management Systems. This is possibly one of the biggest achievements of the year because it gave us a lot of validation that our processes and procedures are robust and serving us well.
August saw the end of our financial year which reflected the growth and hard work of the team along with the investment back into the company. The growth of the company has been ambitious and has paid off and we are looking forward to continuing growth through 2023!!
September saw the start of our new financial year and the well-deserved appointment of Michael Kirkpatrick as Construction Director. Without Michaels dedication and support we would not have achieved the growth and development that we have. I think it is safe to say Craig and Michael make a great team! September also bought the need for a second office setup with Chloe joining us and our team of Estimators and QS partners basing themselves here more frequently.
In October Katie attended the Hub South West ‘Build Dumfries and Galloway’ course along with a number of other owners and managers from the sector. A valuable experience which has helped to build relationships, identify a number of shared goals and ambitions as well as hopefully seeding a construction forum within the region. We have continued to build solid working relationships with our dedicated suppliers and subcontractors in the area, we are very lucky to have such a great group of companies around us – too many to mention here but you know who all are – Thank you for all that you do!
Throughout the year, as well as recruiting staff we have been promoting internally with a number of staff progressing to supervisory roles and undertaking the necessary training and qualifications along the way. One of our apprentices has completed his first year and will hopefully qualify next year as a bricklayer. Another has concluded his college time and is moving onto work based learning from January 2023. Training and knowledge transfer is a high priority for us and we appreciate our team embracing this and developing themselves to reach their full potential.
After all – we are only as good as our team – we are lucky to have such a good one!
